Dry Eye Specialist Melbourne

Normally, a layer of tears (known as the tear film) covers the surface of the eye and the Meibomian glands that run along the lids will secrete oils to slow the evaporation of these tears. If there is a insufficient supply of tears this will cause dry eye disease. Almost 80% of Australians experience dry eye disease and many are unaware.

Our expert optometrists at Spectacle Hub will thoroughly examine the condition of your eyes and propose a dry eye treatment plan with the goal of improving symptoms and eliminating the disease.

We have a large selection of drops, gels, creams, wipes, solutions and heat compresses to assist with Dry Eye Syndrome. We also provide “Blephasteam” treatment, a medical device that is worn & applies steam heat to the eyes’ glands, helping improve dry eye symptoms in over 90% of patients.

Blephasteam® treatment

Controlled warmth.
A closer look at how it works.

A wearable device that delivers moist heat to the eyelids, helping soften thickened oils in the meibomian glands.

Blephasteam eyelid-warming device
01 / WARM THE EYELIDS

Moist heat.

Blephasteam is worn over the eyes. It creates a controlled warm, humid environment around the eyelids.

02 / SOFTEN THE OILS

Target the blockage.

In meibomian gland dysfunction, thickened secretions can obstruct the glands. Warming helps soften these oils so they are easier to release.

03 / FOLLOW WITH LID CARE

Support oil flow.

Your clinician can advise on lid massage and cleansing after warming. This helps remove softened secretions and supports the tear film’s protective oil layer.

Is Blephasteam right for you?

We provide Blephasteam treatment at Spectacle Hub. Ask your local practice about suitability and availability. Your optometrist will recommend a care plan based on your examination; results vary.
